What is Hair Transplant? Hair Transplantation is an out-patient procedure wherein hair is redistributed from the back and sides of the head known as the "donor area". Local anesthesia is administered on the donor site form which strips of hair are removed and dissected into 1-3 hair grafts. The recipient area is then prepared and anesthetized to allow placement of these grafts. The procedure lasts 6-8 hours depending on the size of the bald area. After the procedure, the patient is instructed to follow the post-operative measures.

Is the procedure painful? Most patients tolerate the procedure very well. If at all, discomfort is just felt by the patient when the local anesthesia is being administered. |
How long are activities restricted? Most people return to work or resume normal activities by the next day. Patient is advised not to lift heavy weights for at least 1 week. |
What to expect after the Hair Transplant procedure? Patients may shampoo their hair after 8 hours. No ban doges are needed. Small scabs develop and will remain for 7-10 days. Some patients who have existing hair, they can camouflage a recently done transplant with their remaining hair. Once scabs fall off, the transplanted area will be pinkish in color and these should slowly disappear. Hair starts to grow after 6-8 weeks at Approximately 1 cm month-for the rest of your life. |
How many sessions of Hair transplantation will I need ? Some Patients may require only one session to achieve their objective, but others may opt to have another session for greater density. In general, it takes two hair transplants to attain 85% density, which is often an adequate coverage to satisfy the patient. We advise our patients 4-6 months between procedures to be able to assess the hair growth and to provide a more equal distribution that is more equal. |
Can Hair Transplantation affect the rest of my hair ? Hair roots are very tough and can tolerate surgery or any irritation on the scalp.
A strand of hair can be plucked out hundreds of times and this will just keep growing back. The actual physical trauma of cutting the scalp when inserting the donor grafts can cut the shafts and damages some hair follicles, and significantly interrupts in the blood supply of pre-existing hair strands. This may result in shedding of the pre-existing strands which is temporary and most lost hair will grow back after a few months. |
After a Hair Transplant procedure, will I have more hair ? You will NOT have more hair; hair is merely redistributed by surgery to achieve a hair-bearing appearance. Hair from another person cannot be used for hair transplantation purposes. |
Is there a chance thet hair grafts will be rejected ?
There is no possibility that the hair grafts will be rejected unlike our heart transplants, which are donated by another person; hair grafts come from the same person so that body's immune system will not reject them.
